What to Expect
General Consulting Services
Some clients don’t require drawings, or detailed planting plans. For these folks, I offer my services on an hourly basis. If you’d like I’ll be happy to come out to your home and discuss various design ideas that you may have.
We’ll discuss your style, color ideas and choices, important issues such as maintenance and irrigation and design features such as lighting or fountains. We’ll talk about plants and what purpose you’d like your plantings to achieve; we’ll discuss various outdoor elements, such as pottery or outdoor furniture.
Or if you prefer, I can purchase plants or many different outdoor elements for you (often at a discount to you) and place those plants or elements for you.
Landscape Design Plan Consulting Services
Before starting a landscape design our firm conducts a comprehensive, 3 phase landscape design plan consultation that includes:
1) A comprehensive client interview in which our goal is to obtain the general idea and scope of the client’s desired results for their landscape, what types of plantings they enjoy and desire and any features such as flooring the client may wish to install.
2) Perform a complete landscape design site analysis that surveys the general local environment
3) Complete measurements and photographs of the current landscape, residence and any additional structure(s). Obtain property plat as necessary (separate charge applies).
Landscape Design Plan Services
Our firm will develop a full color conceptual landscape design plan that aims to achieve the goals of our clients have for their landscape based on information provided by our clients throughout the entire design process. Our landscape design plan is generally in “plan view” format and encompasses the general scope and nature of the design ideas, plantings and hardscape envisioned by the client and enhanced by David Moorman Landscape Design and includes a comprehensive design/planting portfolio. From this full color conceptual landscape design a “schematic” or construction/installation planting plan and hardscape plan is developed and which can be provided to the landscape contractor of your choice.
Our design/planting portfolio includes a complete planting list that specifies the common and botanical names of suggested plants, the recommended size and the required quantity of those plants, pictures of each all recommended plants, and pictures of all recommended hardscape items, materials or other pertinent landscape items, such as fountains or pottery.
For clients located within 25 miles of our office David Moorman Landscape Design will provide up to 2 hours of nursery consultation time, building/hardscape materials selection consultation time or both and all necessary and required meeting time for the completion of the landscape design plan. For clients outside 25 miles of our office these services are charged at our standard rate, portal to portal.
Landscape Project Management Services
We assist our clients in the contractor selection process and co-ordinate all contractors and/or sub-contractors hired for the installation of the design plan. Basically, we’ll provide all landscape design installation and consultation services as related to the installation of the landscape design plan that our firm developed. We will provide all on-site landscape design plan supervision services during installation of all the landscape design elements, such as plant planting and hardscape installation such as concrete pours, walkway or patio installation, etc.
We also provide full client support and client representation with all associated contractors and sub-contractors to ensure your landscape project is completed to your satisfaction and that your landscape project, as closely as possible, represents the general layout and structure of your landscape design plan. David Moorman Landscape Design will ensure detailed landscape installation cost estimates are provided from all associated contractors as necessary. We can also order and secure certain landscape building materials such as stone, rock, lighting fixtures, or other outdoor elements as directed by the Client. (A 10% surcharge applies.) Our landscape project management services are charged to our clients at our standard hourly rate.

Plan Ahead
Having a landscape design that encompasses your thoughts and ideas helps to avoid needless costs, such as wasting money on plants that won’t survive in our harsh desert climate, or spending money needlessly on useless and expensive materials. A landscape design also helps to anticipate and solve potential problems before one spade of dirt is turned. Whether you plan on doing the work yourself, or hire a landscape contractor, having a comprehensive master landscape plan allows you personal control over your project, helps in securing sound and competitive bids, and helps offer the flexibility to plan the work in stages around your budget.
Getting Started
Once you call or e-mail, we’ll set and appointment and arrange for a no-obligation landscape design consultation. These consultation fees are charged on an hourly basis and credited back to you whenever you decide to commission a design for your project. At this stage before our initial appointment, take some time to create a wish list that includes all your ideas and features you wish to include in your landscape. Include magazine photos if possible.
After Our Initial Consultation
After our initial consultation, David Moorman Landscape Design will submit to you a detailed proposal that spells out the nature and scope of the project and our services and fees, as well as a scheduled start date. To retain our services and commence our agreement there is an initial design services fee of 50% of the total of the landscape design proposal.
Installing the Design
Once the design is complete, as part of our comprehensive project management services, we can help you through the entire process of selecting landscape or construction professionals and obtaining competitive bids for your project. I will also personally consult with you and your contractor(s) during the construction and installation stage of your project, help select and order building and plant materials, and place all the plants in the landscape prior to planting.
